Over 1000 participants took part in more than 20 sports and challenges over two days of action in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council

Dubai, February 23, 2019 – After two thrilling days of competition du were crowned the overall champions of the inaugural Corporate Sports Championship Dubai, held in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council and in aid of Friends of Cancer Patients.

du fought off a fierce challenge from Dubai Islamic Bank on the second day of the Championship, played at the state of the art Swiss International Scientific School, for a well-deserved victory as the best performing company over the Championship.

Earlier on Saturday Dubai Islamic Bank threatened to snatch the Championship shield away from du with impressive wins in both the cricket and football finals.

With the lights of the iconic Burj Khalifa twinkling in the background the jubilant du team were presented with the Corporate Sports Championship shield by CEO and Founder of Corporate Sports, Mr. Mohammed Husary, and Mr. Saleh Al Marzooqi, Director of Corporate Support at the Dubai Sports Council.

In an incredibly close contest for the overall Championship title there was a very tight margin separating Dubai Islamic Bank in second and Saudi German Hospital UAE third.

Dubai Islamic Bank took out the award for the best team with under 20 participants while du took out the Excellence Award for the team with the most employees across all the sports and Boston Consulting Group claiming the Team Discipline Award for sportsmanship.

du won the grand prize of a Corporate Wellness Program worth AED150,000 that will be delivered by the Championship organizers Corporate Sports while overall cash and prizes for the Championship exceeded AED300,000.

Appropriately launched in the Year of Tolerance the Corporate Sports Championship Dubai welcomed participants from over 50 nationalities – emphasizing the diversity of Dubai’s culture – with ages ranging from 21 right through to over 60. In total 16 Industries were represented.

Featuring over 20 sports, challenges and team building activities and over 1000 participants there was a total of 2000 friends and family attending across the weekend, which saw 668 matches played in 1600 minutes of playing time with 247 goals scored in football and 4,420 runs in cricket.

The Corporate Sports Championship was an all-inclusive holistic wellness event featuring nutritious catering and five seminars from the Corporate Sports Wellness team exploring health and fitness issues.

“The key objectives of the Corporate Sports Championship are to bring Wellness into the Workplace, promote Healthy Work/Life Balance and facilitate friendly competition all as part of the Ultimate Sports Day Experience,” said Husary in his closing speech.

Earlier on Saturday in the hotly contested Men’s Football Tournament a classy Dubai Islamic Bank team triumphed over Boston Consulting Group in the final, with Ahmed El Baloushy from Dubai Islamic Bank taking out the MVP award.

Dubai Islamic Bank also triumphed in the popular cricket tournament edging out NAFFCO in the final with du third.

While in the Women’s Basketball final Saudi German Hospital were too good for UAS, however the UAS Men’s team prevailed defeating HILTI in the final

Saudi German Hospital took out the Mixed Volleyball from Driven Properties with Meraas winning out the Women’s Badminton and du the Men’s with Mohammed Sharique named MVP.

PWC, spearheaded by captain Leila Panju, and NAFFCO shared the Table Tennis titles while PWC also took out the Mixed Team Building Event.

In a popular addition to the event Boston Consulting Group came out on top in the Mixed Ninja Warrior Fitness Challenge with a very impressive time of 30 seconds.

Proving who the real office heroes are was Nestle who took out the Mixed Foosball from UAS and NAFFCO.

The Corporate Sports Championship Dubai was officially opened on Thursday evening with a gala dinner and reception at the stunning Bvlgari Resort on Jumeirah Bay Island with inspirational speeches from HE Saeed Mohammed Hareb, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council, and Mr. Husary.
