MELBOURNE, , (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Oct, 2016 ) - Veteran Socceroo Tim Cahill launched his homecoming to Australia's A-League with a spectacular long-range goal in Melbourne City's thumping 4-1 derby win over Melbourne Victory on Saturday.
The 36-year-old well-travelled international hit a sizzling 35-metre volley that sailed over goalkeeper Lawrence Thomas into the top right-hand corner to open the scoring. Cahill, who has scored a record 48 international goals for his country, was playing for the first time in the A-League after a stellar 18-year stint overseas.
Uruguayan Bruno Fornaroli, Luke Brattan and Argentine Fernando Brandan rounded off the scoring for Melbourne City, who are owned by Abu Dhabi-based City Football Group and coached by Dutchman John van't Schip.
Marco Rojas, who flew back after playing for New Zealand in the United States in mid-week, scored Victory's only goal. Melbourne City remain unbeaten along with Sydney FC after the opening two rounds of the A-League.
