MEXICO CITY, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Oct, 2016 ) - Veteran Formula One team boss Frank Williams has been hospitalised with pneumonia, it was revealed Friday. The 74-year-old, who has been a tetraplegic and confined to a wheelchair since a 1986 car crash in France, is being treated in England.
"Frank was taken ill at Monza. He's had a tough time in hospital, he's contracted pneumonia. He is making a slow and steady recovery," said Mike O'Driscoll, the Williams team's chief executive on the sidelines of the Mexican Grand Prix on Friday.
"He's been a fixture in the paddock for so many decades now, it's strange not to have him with us." The Williams team took part in their first grand prix in 1977 and have since collected seven drivers titles and nine constructors crowns.
Their last drivers world championship was won by Jacques Villeneuve in 1997. Williams' daughter Claire, the team's deputy principal, is not in Mexico this weekend, choosing instead to remain at her father's side.
