LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Jan, 2018 ) :Youthful Hussain Hamid won the Royal Palm annual golf championship here on Friday at Royal Palm Golf Course. This golfer of substance is a five handicapper and through consistency and in-depth knowledge of the course, he managed to capture the Royal Palm Champions title for the year.
This honour he attained through admirable application of golfing techniques which helped him outshine and outwit many other strong contenders. Conditions were challenging at the golf course and even some forceful golfers like Damil Ataullah, Shahid Abbas and Farid Malik ended up with a disappointing outing with strokes losses just too many and their overall score was nowhere near the mark of excellence.
As far the victorious one, his scores of gross 76 in the first round and gross 79 in the final, 18 holes reflected good, steady play and with a two days aggregate of 155, Hussain Hamid managed to lay his hands on the title trophy and the coveted champions title.
"I really enjoyed my hitting," said Hussain and "my strategy was to go for accuracy in hitting". The other man to show resilience and good play was Azfar Hassan whose effort was merely good enough to fetch him the runners-up slot.
He lost to Hussain Hamid by a margin of two strokes, his aggregate score being 157 as against 155 of Hussain Hamid. In the race for honours in seniors category, the conqueror in gross section was Imran Miraj, thanks to some fanciful hitting and besides the joy of winning he felt elated as he managed to curb the challenge put up by seasoned seniors like Mansoor Zaigham, Col Jameel and Irfan Raja.
And the winner in seniors net category was Hamid Sharif. In the other events, also at stake was the Captains Prize. This prestigious prize was won by Asad Agha with Tanveer Agha being runner-up.
In a grand prize distribution ceremony, Ramzan Shaikh, CEO, Royal Palm, handed over the champions trophy to Hussain Hamid, who was also declared the Champions Champion based on his performances during the year.
Ramzan Sheikh also announced that the new Captain of Royal Palm will be Abdullah Sharif. The outgoing Captain Lt Gen (Retd) M Tariq will now function as the Senior Patron of the Club. The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Parvez Qureshi, Director Operations, Ahmed Iqbal Saeed, Vice President Operations, Abdullah Sharif, Col Jameel Khalid, Director Golf, Lt-Gen (Retd) M Tariq and golfers.
