The BCCI has not yet decided if it will play against Pakistan in the World Cup this June
Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 24th February, 2019) The board of Control for cricket in India (BCCI), while targeting Pakistan, has requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to ask its members to "sever ties with countries from which terrorism emanates".
The BCCI has not yet decided if it will play against Pakistan in the World Cup this June but it has written a letter to the ICC raising the issue of security at the tournament.
Asked whether India would play Pakistan in their World Cup group match, scheduled for June 16 in Manchester, BCCI’s Vinod Rai said a decision could not be taken right away.
"June 16 is very far away. We will take a call on that much later and in consultation with government," he said.
This development came after the BCCI had mulled the option of calling for a complete ban on Pakistan from the upcoming World Cup, via a draft letter prepared on Wednesday.
The move comes days after the Pulwama attack when on 14 February 2019, a convoy of vehicles carrying security personnel on the Jammu Srinagar National Highway was attacked by a vehicle-borne suicide bomber at Lethpora in the Pulwama district of India-Ocuupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Indian media and politicians have since been blaming Pakistan for the attack without any evidence.
Pakistan has, in turn, rejected the allegations of its involvement in the attack and said that this was New Delhi's strategy to divert international attention from human rights violations taking place in the Kashmir region.
