Moscow Authorities Commend Diplomats For Assistance In Holding 2018 World Cup

The Moscow Mayor's Office on Saturday expressed its gratitude to the diplomatic corps for assistance in organizing a number of remarkable international events, including the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
A New Year's eve reception organized by the government of Moscow in honor of the diplomatic corps accredited in the city is taking place in Zaryadye concert hall.
"All the work issues during a number of events that we jointly conducted in Moscow were addressed promptly, effectively and in the most qualitative way. We cannot ignore the largest event of not only 2018, but the last decade the World Cup ... Today we can see that all the preparation plans were fully achieved and Russia was represented by Moscow at the highest level, as safe and friendly country," Deputy Mayor of Moscow in regional security and information policy Aleksander Gorbenko said during the reception.
Gorbenko noted that due to hospitality of the diplomatic corps, numerous events in the framework of Moscow Days had been held over the year in a huge number of cities around the world. He also expressed hope that 2019 would be similarly rewarding in terms of warm and friendly relations between the Moscow authorities and the diplomatic corps.
From June 14 to July 15, Russia hosted the FIFA World Cup for the first time in its history. Matches were played in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi, Yekaterinburg, Saransk, Kaliningrad, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Volgograd, and Samara.
