Muzammil causes upset in ITF Junior Circuit tourney

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -7th Sept,2016) : Pakistan Junior number one player Muzammil Murtaza caused a major upset when he defeated top seed, World Junior Ranked 212 Hua Chen YU of Chinese Taipei, in straight set 7-6, 6-2 in the pre-quarter final match of the ITF Junior Circuit Week 1, Grade-5 tournament at Colombo, Sri Lanka on Wednesday.

In the quarter final, Muzammil will face another unseeded Chinese Taipei player Chang Lin TSAI, a spokesman of Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) said. In the Boys Doubles Pre-quarter final Muzammil Murtaza pairing with Rin MULLER (Netherlands) also caused a key upset when they eliminated 2nd Seed Han Chin LIN and Shan Yusan OU of Chinese Taipei, 6-2, 2-2 (retired).

The spokesman said that the federation keeping in view its goals and development programmes for juniors, encouraged the youngster and sponsored a part of Muzammil Murtaza's tour of Sri Lanka to prove his talent and skills at international level.

Syed Nofil Kaleem, who recently won the doubles title of the Amman World Ranking Tennis Tournament-2 in Jordan, was unfortunate to make his game click in Colombo and, along with Muhammad Ali Shaibzada and Muhammad Raza Shawani, who are also participating in this ITF Junior Circuit on self-financed basis, could not show desired results.

The ITF Junior Circuit is an excellent platform for upcoming junior players to demonstrate their skills and talent and gain exposure at the International level. President PTF, Salim Saifullah Khan and senior management of PTF congratulated Muzammil on his recent performance and wished him the best of luck in bringing back laurels for country.
