ABUJA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Dec, 2016 ) : The Nigerian government has released more than a million Dollars to cover outstanding win bonuses for the country's football teams.
The office of the Nigerian accountant general has released $1.2 million to cover win bonuses for the Super Falcons' participation at the Women's Africa Nations Cup in Cameroon and for the Super Eagles for 2018 World Cup qualifiers, according to an official statement.
On Wednesday, the Falcons staged a protest march to the country's parliament after they won a record eighth women's continental crown in Cameroon while vowing not to release the trophy they won in Cameroon until they are paid.
The women's team had staged a two-week sit-in at their Abuja hotel since returning from their triumph in Cameroon. The Super Eagles win bonus will comprise $5,000 per player for victories against Zambia and Algeria which have taken them top of their qualifying group, four points clear of Cameroon.
