PCB to evolve a mechanism on Afridi's retirement

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -19th Sept,2016) - Chief Operating Officer, Pakistan Cricket Board, Subhan Ahmad has said that the board was in process of evolving a mechanism on the retirement of senior players including Shahid Afridi.

"We are going to hold an important meeting on September 27 in which we will approve a mechanism and allied aspects to extend send off to Shahid Afridi and other senior players at the time of their retirement," he was talking to the media at the logo unveiling ceremony of Pak-West Indies series at Royal Palm club on Monday.

He said players from different countries of the world get consultation from their respective cricket boards at the time of their retirement and PCB is following the same in Afridi's retirement case.

"PCB has not yet decided to award Rs ten million as it did in the case of retirement of former Pakistan cricket captain, Inzamam ul Haq, to Afridi at the time of his retirement," he asserted. Subhan Ahmad said the selection committee headed by Inzamam ul Haq has all the powers and authority on selection matters and in some cases the selection committee announced the teams without informing the PCB which did not object on it.

"PCB has not given any direction to the selection committee regarding selection of any specific player including Salman Butt and it has given a free hand to it to run its affairs without any pressure from any quarter," he observed.

The PCB official said a few former players have contacted the PCB and offered their services for the position of bowling coach with the Pak senior team and a decision will be taken in this regard in few days time.

He said the PCB has decided to retain Azhar Ali as one day cricket in the larger interest of the game. He expressed his gratitude to the sponsors and business houses for extending financial support by sponsoring cricket events and series home and abroad.

"We are thankful to all the sponsors for standing with the PCB in its thick and thin and PCB value their role in the development of cricket and supporting Pakistan cricket," he said.
