Picking Russia to Host 2023 Ice Hockey World Championship Sign of Trust - Russian Minister

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF)'s decision to allow Russia to host the 2023 Ice Hockey World Championship is a sign of trust, Russian Sports Minister Pavel Kolobkov said on Thursday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 27th September, 2018) The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF)'s decision to allow Russia to host the 2023 Ice Hockey World Championship is a sign of trust, Russian Sports Minister Pavel Kolobkov said on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, Roman Rotenberg, deputy chief of Russia's Ice Hockey Federation, told Sputnik earlier that St. Petersburg was picked to host the event.

The IIHF declined to confirm this, saying the announcement would be made next May.

"The decision by the IIHF's Congress is a sign that the sports community continues to trust us and is guided in its choice of organizers of world tournaments by sportive principles," Kolobkov told Sputnik.

The minister said that Russia had a lot of experience in hosting international championships, having organized four ice hockey world events, and received commendations from their participants.
