Power-lifting needs attention

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Sep, 2016 ) : Twinkle Sohail who clinched a gold medal in Asian Power-lifting Championship believe there is immense talent in the country but the game needs to be given attention.

It may be mentioned that Twinkle is the first Pakistani female power-lifter to claim a gold medal in the 2015 Asian Power-lifting (bench press) Championship. Talking to APP, Twinkle said government need to pay the same type of attention to the game of power-lifting as it giving to cricket, hockey and squash.

"No game can flourish without the support from the government and sponsors". "More and more competitions need to be organized at district and national level in order to encourage the game and talent," she said.

She said we are not getting facilities which are needed according to the international standard.

"Instead Mian Muhammad Aslam, President, Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWF), is bearing all the expenses," she said.

She said Pakistan team will participate in the Asia Oceania Power-lifting Championship scheduled to be held in New Zealand from December 4 to 11. "As many as nine players (five male and four female) will participate in the championship including Azhar Butt (105kg), Nadeem Hashmi (120kg), Malik Rashid (95kg), Muhammad Adnan (120kg), Muhammad Asif (120kg), Saima Shahzad (53kg), Sinya Gaffor (58kg), Twinkle Sohail (58kg) and Neelum Raiz (63kg)," she said.

She said the team's training camp is undergoing in Lahore for the event's preparation. APP/vad/aa/bmq
