PESHAWAR, Sept 29 (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Sep, 2017 ) : Top ranking player promising Barkat Ullah clinched the Men�s singles trophy of the first Nazim Peshawar Tennis Championship, which concluded here PAF Officer Mess Tennis Courts on Friday.
Nazim Peshawar Arbab Muhammad Asim, former Sports Minister Syed Aqil Shah, Secretary Local Government KP Syed Jamal Uddin Shah, President KP Tennis Association for known plastic surgeon Dr. Tahir, Chairman District Sports Committee Meena Khan, Vice Chairman Waseem Khan, Secretary KP Tennis Association Umar Ayaz, Associate Secretary Pakistan Olympic Association Zulfiqar Ali Butt, officials and large number of spectators were also present.
In the Men singles final Barkat Ullah defeated Saqib Umar by 6-4 and 7-6 (6-6) in a thrilling encounter. Both Barkat Ullah and Davis Cupper Saqib Umar presented excellent display of forceful smashes and strong services.
Barkat Ullah took the first set by 6-4 and faced tough resistance at the hands of Saqib Umer in the second match. Earlier Saqib defeated Ejaz Khan in the first semi-finals by 6-3, 4-6 and 7-5 (6-6) while Barkat Ullah outclassed Yousaf Khan by 62 and 6-3.
In the Boys Under-16 final another Davis Cupper and Pakistan No. 1 in Under-16 category Shoaib Khan defeated Aqib Umar by 6-2, 3-6 and 6-4 in a thrilling match. Shoaib and Aqib Umar exhibited good display of forceful smashes.
Aqib Umar earlier shocked Hammad Khan in the first semi-final by 6-2 and 6-3 and Shoaib Khan defeated Kashan Umar by 6-1, 5-7 and 6-3.
It was a thrilling final of the Under-14 category when Uzair Khan defeated Hamid Davis Cupper Hamid Israr by 6-2, 3-6 and 6-4 in a thrilling three sets battle witnessed by capacity crowd present on this occasion.
Uzair Khan faced tough resistance at the hands of Hamid Israr, who recently represented Pakistan in the Junior Davis Cup held in Sri Lanka. Hamid recorded victory against Khasan Umar by 2-1, the score was 3-6, 6-2 and 6-1 while Uzair Khan beat Pakistan No.
1 in Under-10 category and promising Hamza Roman by 6-2 and 3-6, 6-2 in the second semi-final. At the end, Syed Aqil Shah, Syed Jamal Uddin and Nazim Peshawar gave away trophies and cash prizes.
Nazim Peshawar on this occasion said that like Tennis, Hockey, Cricket, Squash more such activities would be organized in future. He said District Government will be organizing football event very soon besides a Twenty20 National cricket Tournament wherein players would be invited from other provinces as well.
He said the District Govt is very keen in holding various sports activities for the youth. He said it is clear policy of the District Govt to have more and more sporting activities so that to involve the youth in healthy activities.
He also appreciated Secretary Local Govt Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Syed Jamal Uddin for extending all out support in providing funds for the sports activities. Syed Jamal Uddin, who is also served as Secretary Sports earlier on, assured on this occasion that District Govt would hold more such activities in futures.
