PSL-4: Islamabad United beat Lahore Qalandars by 49 runs

Sami eleven set a mammoth 239 runs target for Qalandars. CS Delport 117 runs helped United to set highest total of PSL history

KARACHI- (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News- 9th March 2019) Islamabad United has crushed Lahore Qalandars by 49 runs in 27th contest of fourth season of Pakistan Super League (PSL) at Karachi’s National cricket Stadium.

The Sami eleven has set the 239 runs target for the Fakhar eleven which earlier won the toss and decided to ball first. After the win, the IU qualified for the playoff spot. But, the LQ has the least chance to fix the spot in the playoff though it has yet to play a match against Multan Sultans.

The IU’s 238 runs at the loss of three wickets were the highest runs made in the Pakistan Super League history. Its opener CS Delport scored 117, the highest single in the history of the PSL.

Chasing the target, opener Fakhar Zaman appeared in an aggressive tone and scored 38 before getting dismissed on Fahim Asrif ball who earlier bowled AP Devcich at the score of 18. Sohail Akhtar was the highest scorer of LQ who made 75 runs on 35 balls with the help of eight boundaries and five sixes.

Fahim Ashraf was the highest wicket taker of Islamabad United who dismissed six players of the LQ against only 19 runs in four overs. Shadab Khan and Rumman Raees got one wicket each.

Earlier, Qalandars won the toss and chose to field. L Ronchi and CS Delport opened the innings. Ronchi was caught on the first ball of the match. Shaheen Shah Afridi dismissed him on zero. However, CS Delport played an impressive inning and made a century. He went not out on 117 runs, also the highest individual in PSL history. Asif Ali made half century and went not out on 54 scores. CAK Walton hit 48 on 30 balls and PD Salt made 10. S Lamichhani, Afridi and D Wiesi got one wicket each.

The match started at 7:00 pm with a packed stadium of game lovers including women, children and elderly citizens. Strict security arrangements were made to avoid any untoward situation.
