The world's largest sports museum, the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum will open next year, museum's acting director Fuad Mudahka told Sputnik.
DOHA (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 12th October, 2018) The world's largest sports museum, the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum will open next year, museum's acting director Fuad Mudahka told Sputnik.
"We plan to open the biggest sports museum in the world in 2019 in Qatar and we cannot wait to show to a wider audience the incredible things it will have in its collection," Mudahka said.
He stressed that he was confident the museum will attract different people including sports fans and professional athletes.
"The museum's area is 19,000 square meters [204,500 square feet]. It takes at least two hours to see it all. The museum will be situated inside the Khalifa football stadium, the first stadium built ahead of the [2022] FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Its six galleries are designed to attract visitors by the history of sports and the Olympic Movement," he noted.
Speaking about the unique items to be on display at the museum, Mudahka said it was almost a one-of-a-kind collection of Olympic torches from all the games since 1936.
"The museum collection will include many unique items: medals from all the Olympic Games since 1896, as well as the official posters of the games since 1912," he underlined.
According to Mudakha, items from the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup held in Russia will also be part of the museum's collection.
"Museum visitors will have an opportunity to see medals, posters and torches from the 1980 Moscow Olympics and Sochi Olympics [of 2014]. We are currently negotiating with Russia, which items from the fantastic FIFA World Cup, held in Russia this summer, will be exhibited at the museum," Mudahka added.
Mudahka pointed out that the museum will also play the role of an education center with an international library with a variety of books about sports.
The museum will also have a sports cafe and a restaurant, designed by English Michelin star winning head chef Tom Aikens.
The acting director said the approval of guest list for the museum's opening ceremony was underway. The museum will invite distinguished guests from all over the world, including famous Russian athletes and politicians.
