RugbyU: RFU Double Revenue Despite England World Cup Flop

LONDON, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Oct, 2016 ) : England's governing Rugby Football Union announced Friday it had almost doubled its revenue for the last financial year after staging the 2015 World Cup even though their side suffered an embarrassing first-round exit.
The RFU saw its annual revenue increase to #407.1 million ($496.1 million, 451.6 million Euros), up #199.2 million on the same period in the previous year. In the RFU's annual report and accounts, the World Cup alone was shown to have generated #228.1 million of revenue last year alone.
"This was a truly exceptional year," said RFU chief executive Ian Ritchie. "Despite the huge disappointment of England's early exit from our home Rugby World Cup, by running the widely acclaimed 'most successful Rugby World Cup ever' we have delivered significant investment into rugby both at home and globally.
"The legacy will continue to benefit our community clubs and the sport at every level." Meanwhile, in a separate development, businessman Andy Cosslett, who as chairman of England Rugby 2015 oversaw the running of last year's World Cup, was elected as the new chairman of the RFU following a meeting of the governing body's council.
The 61-year-old succeeds Bill Beaumont after England's 1980 Grand Slam-winning captain's recent appointment as chairman of World Rugby, the 15-a-side code's global ruling body.
