Russia Wants To Propose Holding Sports Event Between BRICS, EAEU States - Putin

Russia wants to make a proposal to the states of BRICS and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) on holding a sports event between their athletes, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday.

ULYANOVSK (Russia) (UrduPoint news / Sputnik - 10th October, 2018) Russia wants to make a proposal to the states of BRICS and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) on holding a sports event between their athletes, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday.

"We want to make a proposal to our BRICS and EAEU partners on holding a special sports competition. We are interested in our best athletes' often meetings, competitions and friendship aimed at development of sports exchanges," Putin said at a plenary session of the Russia - Country of Sports international forum in the city of Ulyanovsk.

The president pointed out that outstanding athletes were very important role models for the younger generation.

"These people, who symbolize the real sports spirit, character, unity, undoubtedly deserve the global support," Putin added.

BRICS is an association of five developing economies (China, Russia, Brazil, India and South Africa), which have a combined nominal GDP equivalent to approximately 20 percent of the gross world product. The EAEU is an international organization, whose goal is to encourage regional economic integration through the free movement of goods, services, and people within the union. The organization includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.
