Sarfraz Ahmed wants India to keep sports and politics separate

He said that we will play cricket against India if they are willing to.

Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 21st February, 2019) Pakistan cricket team captain Sarfraz Ahmed has said that India should not involve sports in politics.

Speaking in an interview, the skipper said that India should keep sports and politics separate.

He said that we will play cricket against India if they are willing to.

“But if they don’t want to play with us, we will not run after them,” he said.

Sarfraz further said that with the massive success of Pakistan Super League (PSL), it is now being considered the second biggest cricket league after Indian Premiere League (IPL).

Therefore, he said, PSL should not be hurt.

With the 2019 World Cup in just 100 days, there are speculations where Pak-India matches will be held or not.

The tensions between India and Pakistan have reached a new high following the Pulwama attack that killed 40 Indian soldiers.

With the attack and ongoing Indian propaganda, uncertainty looms over the world cup matches to be held between the two neighbours.

However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has hinted that the Pak-India matches will be held as per schedule.

ICC’s outgoing chief executive officer, Dave Richardson has said that the governing body has no reasons to make any changes to the proposed World Cup schedule and that all matches will be played as planned.

“We haven’t written to the boards as yet,” Richardson said in London.

“Our thoughts are with the people that were impacted by the incident. And we are monitoring the situation with our members including the BCCI and PCB," he said.

"Certainly, there are no indications any of the matches, including the Pakistan-India match, will not be played as planned at the World Cup. But as I say we will continue to monitor the situation,” the ICC head added.
