Setback for Cubs hurler Darvish as rehab start cut short

Chicago Cubs pitcher Yu Darvish was in limbo again Sunday as his minor league rehabilitation start in Indiana was cut short after just one inning because of pain.

Los Angeles, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Aug, 2018 ) :Chicago Cubs pitcher Yu Darvish was in limbo again Sunday as his minor league rehabilitation start in Indiana was cut short after just one inning because of pain.

The Japanese star, who signed a six-year deal with the Cubs in February, threw 19 pitches, 10 for strikes, in a start that was expected to see him throw three innings.

He took the mound for the second but was removed after six warmup pitches, signalling the dugout he needed to depart.

"During the warmup of the next inning, I felt something in there," Darvish said according to a story posted on the Cubs' website.

"Last time, even though I did feel the same thing, I continued to throw. This time, I just stopped it here." Darvish said the discomfort he felt was similar to that he experienced after his last rehab start in June, before he was diagnosed with a right elbow impingement and inflammation.

The 32-year-old has been on the disabled list with right triceps tendinitis since May 23.

Darvish, who threw 55 pitches in a simulated game at Wrigley Field on Wednesday, said he still hopes to play this season.

"I'm going to work really hard and do my best to try to come back," he said.
