Uzbekistan's hockey team will arrive Pakistan on April 20 for a 14-day tour to play a six-match test series against Pakistan's Development Squad
"We are trying that if due to scarcity of funds we cannot go abroad then we invite other teams to visit Pakistan," Secretary Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), Shehbaz Ahmed Senior said on Monday in a video message.
He said to form a strong Development Squad, a hockey league was being organized in Gojra in which five teams would participate.
"The league will help us identify talent for our Development Squad in a week time," he said.
Secretary PHF said by year end Poland's team would visit Pakistan. "We are also trying to hold a top quality floodlight tournament after the holy month of Ramazan.
Youth from across the country will be part of that tournament. This will help us select players for Pakistan Hockey League," he said.
Referring to a press conference of former Olympians, he said that more than half of them were those, who had worked in the PHF in some capacity or the other for a year or two. When they were expelled due to poor performance they had started speaking against the federation, he said.
He said currently Pakistan hockey team was at number 12 in International Hockey Federation ranking and it could not become a champion at once.
"I will request them (former Olympians) if they have any plan or programme for Pakistan hockey give it to the IPC ministry, Pakistan sports board or PHF. We will try to implement that."
