New York, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th May, 2018 ) :Brett Gardner belted a two-run triple and Aaron Judge homered on Wednesday as the New York Yankees rallied for a 9-6 win over the Boston Red Sox, their 17th win in 18 games.

Gardner, who came into the game in a seven-for-56 batting slump, doubled in the first and third innings. In the eighth, he hammered a 3-2 pitch off Red Sox closing pitcher Craig Kimbrel over the head of centre fielder Mookie Betts for a triple that scored two runs and put the Yankees up 7-6.

Judge followed with a two-run blast to centre field to make it 9-6 and Aroldis Chapman recorded the final three outs for his ninth save of the season. With their eighth straight win, the Yankees moved one game ahead of the Red Sox in the American League East division.

Neil Walker led off the bottom of the eighth with a double off Red Sox relief pitcher Matt Barnes. Walker advanced to third on Miguel Andujar's ground out to second base and after Gleyber Torres walked, Red Sox manager Alex Cora brought on Kimbrel in search of a five-out save.

Yankees starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka battled through 5 1/3 innings, surrendering two homers among four runs and a season-high eight hits. Some sparkling defense by the Yankees spared him worse, including Judge's diving catch in right field that deprived J.D.

Martinez of a hit. He was lifted in the sixth for reliever Chad Green, who surrendered a seventh-inning homer to Hanley Ramirez that put Boston ahead.
