Beijing Hopes For Fair Treatment Toward Chinese Tech Firms In Europe - Foreign Minister
Daniyal Sohail Published March 18, 2019 | 06:03 PM
Chinese authorities hope that Chinese technological companies would enjoy fair and non-discriminatory treatment in Europe, which will make independent decisions about its cybersecurity amid baseless and politically motivated accusations against Chinese firms, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday
A number of counties, in particular the United States, have voiced security concerns over China's high-tech giant Huawei and ZTE telecommunications corporation. Huawei seeks to participate in the development of 5G internet networks abroad, however, the countries have pointed out to the ties of Huawei CEO to the Chinese government and claimed that the company might use its technology for spying, something that the company has categorically denied.
"We hope for fair and non-discriminatory conditions for the operation of Chinese companies in Europe .
.. [China] stands against groundless politically motivated accusations and attempts to hinder the work of foreign companies ... We believe that such practice is abnormal, immoral and has no support among European countries," Wang said at a press conference after attending consultations with EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini in Brussels.
The diplomat expressed hope that Europe would be independent when making decisions about their cybersecurity policy.
The United States, which has prohibited the country's government from using Huawei and ZTE equipment, has called on its allies to exclude the giant from developing their 5G networks. Australia and New Zealand have already banned Huawei from taking part in their 5G projects.
