Beware! WhatsApp Gold Update Is A Virus

The WhatsApp Gold hoax first circulated in 2016 and has emerged again

Lahore (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 8th January, 2019) There is a WhatsApp scam doing the rounds which states that users are getting messages to download WhatsApp Gold or WhatsApp Plus.

The upgrade, called WhatsApp Gold, apparently gives users the ability to hold video chats, send 100 pictures at once, and delete messages hours after they have sent them.

The users are given a link through which they can download the "update" – but it takes them to a website riddled with malware.

Malware, or malicious software, is a virus that can be used to breaking into your phone and steal the messages and other private data of the users.

Users are likely to get a new message saying that if you download WhatsApp Gold or WhatsApp Plus, you will get access to some hidden premium features of the Facebook-owned app.

It starts out with warning about a video called martinelli, which it claims will come out tomorrow and hack their phone.

It says: "If you know anyone using WhatsApp you might pass on this. An IT colleague has advised that a video comes out tomorrow from WhatsApp called martinelli do not open it, it hacks your phone and nothing will fix it. Spread the word.”
