The first launch of Russia's GLONASS satellite in 2019 is scheduled for Apil-May, a space industry source told Sputnik on Friday

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 11th January, 2019) The first launch of Russia's GLONASS satellite in 2019 is scheduled for Apil-May, a space industry source told Sputnik on Friday.

"The launch is expected in April-May," the source said.

It will be the first launch from the modernized launch pad 3 of the Plesestsk cosmodrome's site 43.

"The qualification launch of a Soyuz-2 rocket will be combined with the launch of the GLONASS-M navigation satellite," the source added.

Earlier reports suggested that one serial satellite of the new generation "GLONASS-K1" and the first "GLONASS-K2" satellite of the next generation, as well as 3-4 space vehicles of the current generation "GLONASS-M" will be launched in 2019.
