Huawei Punishes Staff For Using IPhone To Tweet

Chinese telecom firm Huawei has punished staffers who used an iPhone made by its US rival Apple to send an official company tweet amid a standoff between the two tech giants.
The tweet, wishing a Happy New Year "from all of us at Huawei" carried a telltale tag that read "via Twitter for iPhone." The message was deleted but not before it came to attention on social media.
In a January 3 internal memo, published online by Chinese media, the Chinese tech firm said those responsible were demoted and had their salaries slashed by $730.
Huawei said the blunder had damaged the brand. Twitter is banned in China and the company outsources social media management to a marketing firm, Sapient, which experienced a VPN problem on the desktop computer and had to use a phone to tweet.
The standoff between Huawei and Apple was sparked by the arrest last month of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou in Canada at US request, allegedly for violating US sanctions on Iran. She faces extradition.
