NEW DELHI (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd January, 2020) The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has presented a "female" humanoid robot called Vyommitra, which it aims to send to space in an unmanned flight later this year, media reported on Wednesday.

The mission to send Vyommitra to the cosmos is a part of the ISRO's first human spaceflight program dubbed Gaganyaan, which has the goal of sending people to space in 2022, according to The Times of India newspaper. Despite the robot's so-called gender, India reportedly has no plans to send women to space.

Vyommitra is capable of performing multiple tasks and speaks two languages, English and Hindi, ISRO Chief Kailasavadivoo Sivan said, as cited by The Times of India.

In creating its humanoid robot, India studied Russia's experience with the Skybot F-850 robot, also known as Fedor, Indian Ambassador to Russia D. Bala Venkatesh Varma told Sputnik on Wednesday.

Fedor was launched to the International Space Station (ISS) in August and returned to Earth in September.
