ISS To Dump Spent Japanese Scientific Equipment Into Outer Space - Source

Half a tonne of Japanese scientific equipment that is of no use anymore will be thrown away from the International Space Station (ISS) with the help of a Canadian manipulator, a source from the Russian space industry told Sputnik Wednesday.
"The scientific equipment was delivered to the station in 2009 and installed on the external platform of the Japanese Experiment Module Kibo.
It should have been removed by a Japanese cargo spacecraft, but NASA decided to throw the equipment out into outer space on December 21 with the help of Canadian manipulator Canadarm," the source said.
According to the source, the Japanese equipment SEDA-AP was researching the characteristics of the space environment on the ISS, and worked its term out.
The source added that there is no threat of collision of this waste with the station in the future, as it will fly in a lower orbit.
