A capacity building workshop on reporting on telecommunication was organized here keeping in view changing technology, innovations and communication trends

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Jan, 2019 ) :A capacity building workshop on reporting on telecommunication was organized here keeping in view changing technology, innovations and communication trends.

The workshop, organized by Telenor Pakistan at its headquarters in collaboration with Mishal Pakistan, focused on art of story-writing, global telecom trends, use of digital mediums and converting information into content.

International trainers and local industry experts Parvez Iftikhar and Senior Journalist, Mubashir Zaidi conducted workshop which was attended by journalist attached with print and electronic media organizations.

The basic objective was knowledge development and improving skills for journalists reporting on telecommunications as this programme has been specially designed around the modern needs.

It combined international knowledge with best practices being followed in Pakistan and about challenges that were being faced.

The workshop took off by welcome remarks from Senior Communication Officers of Telenor, Areej Khan,Alizeh Abbas and Saad Warraich followed by a session on 'introduction to training and competition' by Mubashir Zaidi who is also very active on digital front.

He spoke on other topics like art of storytelling in digital age, upcoming digital trends, upcoming digital policy, Editor's mind, using social media tools and practical approach to create social media content.

He also shared his insights on reporting on telecommunications, reporting on beyond and on basics on converting information into content.

On the occasion, Parvez Iftikhar highlighted challenges for telecom industry and gave presentations on achievements that Pakistan has made in telecom arena.

He covered records of performance, achievements, goals telecom laws and regulations, licensing regimes especially for 3g and 4G, introduction and benefits of 5G mobile broadband and mobile financial services etc.

Parvez Iftikhar, who is also a Member of National Task Force on IT and Telecom, said Pakistan has emerged as one of leading markets in telecommunications during past few years.

He said a rapid growth in telecommunication technologies has further multiplied development of this sector.

The wrapping up of the workshop by Mubashir Zaidi included assessment of participants.

Addressing the concluding session, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Telenor Pakistan, Irfan Wahab appreciated the initiative and said core idea behind organizing this workshop was to highlight fact that how media can be effectively utilized to further strengthening the telecom sector.

He said, "In my view, media can do a lot through issuing good and critical stories in their contents." "Another important area which should be focused is to build-up a clear understanding of rules and regulations and working environment of the concerned operators while reporting on a particular area or subject," he added.

Irfan Wahab said, "I hope that this effort would prove to be fruitful and beneficial for both sides." He said Telenor Pakistan acquired license for provision of Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) across Pakistan in 2014 which opened a whole new era of opportunities in mobile broad band services in the country and fuelled exponential data growth in market.

Later on in 2016, Telenor Pakistan acquired bandwidth in 850MHz spectrum to bring 4g services.

He said Telenor envisions a digital Pakistan where fast evolving communication technology benefits all and added with advanced LTE, "We continue to introduce new technology that furthers digital revolution in Pakistan." He said in milestone today, we have launched 4.5G that will be a bridge for future mobile data applications leading on to 5G.

Irfan said the technology would enable us to provide faster upload and download speeds while delivering superior user experience by ensuring immediate reaction time for applications and web services with promise of uninterrupted data experience.

The journalists who attended the workshop acknowledged the initiative and said the workshop was quite informative and interactive, as many ambiguities regarding performance ofCellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) and regulator discussed.

Later, Irfan Wahab distributed certificates amongst the participating journalists.
