The Kremlin hopes that RT will manage to defend its rights in relation to Facebook blocking one of the projects by an RT-affiliated media outlet, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th February, 2019) The Kremlin hopes that RT will manage to defend its rights in relation to Facebook blocking one of the projects by an RT-affiliated media outlet, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday.
On Friday, Facebook suspended pages of projects run by Maffick Media, which is partly owned by the Ruptly video agency, a subsidiary of RT. Facebook did not give Maffick Media any prior warning. According to Maffick's statement, the social network was "pressured" into doing this by CNN, which ran a story on Maffick Media and its perceived ties to the Kremlin.
"It is necessary to get explanations first.
I believe that RT should definitely defend its interests and seek explanations from the relevant company, [get a statement] on what was the basis for the suspension. We know that RT has repeatedly managed to protect its rights. I hope it will be this way now," spokesman said.
"The fact is that the pressure on Russian media is unprecedented, undisguised and quite rough. Secondly, it's also no secret that many large companies that provide services in the field of social networks and other digital formats are unfortunately used by the authorities of unfriendly countries as a tool for exerting pressure on Russian media," Peskov added.
