MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 11th March, 2019) The Kremlin and the Russian government speak in favor of the free Internet, the Russian presidential spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said Monday after an authorized rally was held in Moscow Sunday to protest against the bill on autonomous Runet, the Russian segment of the global web.
The legislation was passed by the lower house in February.
"Everybody is in favor of the free Internet, including the initiators of this bill, the presidential administration and the government. Nobody wants to cut off the internet or limit the global web [in Russia]... The bill is aimed at maintaining the Internet in case an aggressive action is taken against our country in the cyberspace," the spokesman said.
