KOROLYOV (Moscow region) (UrduPoint news / Sputnik - 22nd September, 2018) The second stage of the construction of the Vostochny cosmodrome in Russia's Far East will begin after the relevant contract is signed, which is expected to happen in October, Russia's state space corporation Roscosmos chief Dmitry Rogozin said on Saturday.

"I think that we will enter the contract phase in mid-October, and large construction process will begin, even larger one than it was during the construction of the Soyuz-2 missile complex," he said during a conference call with the cosmodrome's staff.

He also mentioned the plans to build schools, cinema, theater and sports facilities for the cosmodrome's staff in a few years.

According to Rogozin, Roscosmos is planning to carry out at least five launches from the Vostochny cosmodrome next year.

The Vostochny cosmodrome has been under construction since 2012. The cosmodrome is one of the most expensive spaceports in the world with an estimated price of $7.5 billion.

The second stage provides for the construction of land infrastructure for the Angara space rocket complex, the expansion of the housing complex to 20,000 people and the creation of an airport complex.
