Roscosmos Says To Reduce Prime Cost Of Angara, Irtysh Rockets For Improved Competitiveness

Russian State Space Corporation Roscosmos has adopted a plan to improve the competitiveness of Russia's new Angara and Irtysh carrier rockets by reducing their prime cost, Roscosmos head Dmitry Rogozin said Wednesday
"Roscosmos has adopted an action plan to improve the competitiveness of Russian launch vehicles. [The plan has] a special emphasis on reducing the prime cost of new carrier rockets of the Angara and Soyuz-5/Irtysh families. The meeting was attended by the heads of all leading industry mechanical engineering plants," Rogozin wrote on Twitter.
The Angara family of launch vehicles is designed to carry anywhere between two and 40 tonnes into low Earth orbit.
It has been in development since 1995 and was the first orbit-capable rocket developed by Russia since the fall of the Soviet Union to replace the older Proton-M rockets.
The two-stage medium-lift Irtysh rocket, previously called Soyuz-5, will be around 160 feet tall with a payload capacity of up to 25 tonnes. It is expected to become the first stage of Russia's prospective super-heavy rocket. The rocket is set to launch Russia's new Federation spacecraft, designed to deliver up to four people and cargo to the Moon and space stations in low Earth orbits, into space.
