Roskomnadzor Says to Ask Twitter, Facebook About Personal Data Localization in December

Russian communications watchdog Roskomnadzor head Alexander Zharov said Tuesday he would send letters to Twitter and Facebook in mid-December asking if the companies comply with the requirement of the Russian law on the storage of personal data of Russian users in Russia.

SOCHI (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th September, 2018) Russian communications watchdog Roskomnadzor head Alexander Zharov said Tuesday he would send letters to Twitter and Facebook in mid-December asking if the companies comply with the requirement of the Russian law on the storage of personal data of Russian users in Russia.

He said Twitter sent a letter to Roskomnadzor stating that in the second half of 2018 the company would localize the data of Russian users on the territory of Russia.

"When the second half of the year comes to an end, I set a deadline for me on December 15, I will write a letter: tell me where this data is stored. They will answer something to me. I will do the same regarding Facebook," Zharov told reporters on the sidelines of a forum.
