Russia, Kazakhstan to Continue Space Cooperation After Nazarbayev's Resignation -Roscosmos

Russia's State Space Corporation Roscosmos will continue to cooperate with Kazakhstan on existing and future space projects following the resignation of President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Roscosmos spokesman Vladimir Ustimenko told Sputnik on Tuesday

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th March, 2019) Russia's State Space Corporation Roscosmos will continue to cooperate with Kazakhstan on existing and future space projects following the resignation of President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Roscosmos spokesman Vladimir Ustimenko told Sputnik on Tuesday.

Nazarbayev announced his resignation earlier in the day in a televised address to the nation.

Presidential election in Kazakhstan is planned to take place in 2020.

"The cooperation will continue," Ustimenko said in response to a relevant question.

Russia is currently renting the town of Baikonur and the cosmodrome of the same name from Kazakhstan. The total area of the leased land is 6,717 sq. km (some 2,593 sq. miles). All manned launches to the International Space Station, as well as launches of spacecraft on board the Soyuz and Proton carrier rockets, are carried out from Baikonur.
