Russian Watchdog Roskomnadzor Says Filed Administrative Offense Report Against Facebook
Daniyal Sohail Published February 28, 2019 | 10:24 PM
The Russian communications watchdog Roskomnadzor has filed an administrative offense report against Facebook over the social network's failure to provide information about the localization of data bases containing Russian users' personal information in the country, the agency's press service told reporters on Thursday
Under Russian law, the personal information of the country's citizens should be stored in Russia.
"Roskomnadzor office for the Central Federal District has filed an administrative offense report against Facebook. The protocol has been filed ... in connection with the company's failure to provide the necessary information about the localization of data bases containing personal information of Russian users on Russia's territory," the press service said.
The press service added that the protocol would be submitted to a justice of the peace so that the latter pass judgment.
On December 17, Roskomnadzor requested Facebook and Twitter to provide information about the location of data bases storing Russian users' personal data. In late January, the Russian watchdog said it was launching administrative proceedings against the two companies over their failure to provide concrete responses.
