Russia's Space Agency Roscosmos Says Plans to Install Glonass Ground Station in India

Russia's state space agency Roscosmos plans to set up a ground station of the global navigation satellite system Glonass in southern India, the agency told Sputnik on Friday

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 11th January, 2019) Russia's state space agency Roscosmos plans to set up a ground station of the global navigation satellite system Glonass in southern India, the agency told Sputnik on Friday.

"We are planning to install a Glonass station in [the Indian city of] Bangalore," Roscosmos said.

In 2016, Russia and India signed an agreement providing for the installation in the two countries of ground stations to collect information from the satellites of the Russian Glonass system and the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (also known as NAVIC). The stations help to improve the accuracy and the credibility of information provided by a navigation system.

Russia's Glonass stations are located around the world, including in Antarctica. In the most recent case, a Glonass station was opened in Armenia on December 14, 2018.
