SEOUL, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Feb, 2018 ) :South Korea has been stepping up cyber security measures on public utilities to fend off potential attacks on major infrastructure during the Winter Olympics and enhance public safety, the energy ministry said Tuesday.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said it has enhanced the level of cyber security at major energy providers in Gangwon Province, the host of the 2018 Winter Olympics. The measure will help ensure a stable supply of electricity to the sports venues and the accommodations for athletes and delegates.

Authorities said it will continue to check cyber-security of key facilities operated by the Korea Electric Power Corp., the state-run power providers, and the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., the nation's sole nuclear operator, during the Winter Games that run until Feb.

25. The government said it will maintain an emergency response system during the Lunar New Year holiday, which begins Thursday, to detect early signs of hacking attempts into the major utility systems.
