Senate panel suggests digitalization of IT Ministry

The Standing Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication has recommended digitalizing the complete functioning of information Ministry to enable it to effectively compete with the world.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Nov, 2018 ) :The Standing Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication has recommended digitalizing the complete functioning of information Ministry to enable it to effectively compete with the world. The Committee also asked Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Pakistan Telecommunication Agency (PTA) to devise a procedure for appointments of focal persons in each other departments at the earliest.

Chaired by Senator Robina Khalid at Parliament House here Tuesday, the Committee was briefed by the high ranking officials of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority PTA) and Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation limited (PTCL).

The Committee was told that the FIA and PTA would jointly set up a committee to work out for establishing a procedure for appointments of focal persons in each other departments.

It was told that the posting of focal persons will create better coordination to help controlling crimes and investigations.

The committee was informed that FIA has just investigative jurisdiction on undertaking operations against terrorism, surveillance, federal crimes and cannot handle cyber crime activities without PTA cooperation.

The Committee was told that PTA is responsible for establishment, operation and maintenance of telecommunication in Pakistan and has not any concerned with FIA.

Moreover, the Committee has directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and ptcl to make due payments regarding non payments of increase in pension to the pensioners.

It was informed that PTCL was earning annually Rs 110 billion revenues. The whole overdue outstanding payments amounting to Rs 140billion of 20,000 pensioners would be cleared till 2070.
