Members of the South Korean ruling Democratic Party will visit the local office of Internet giant Google on Monday and will ask the company to remove over 100 videos that they believe contain fake information from YouTube, the chief of the party's panel charged with combating fake news, Park Kwang-on, said.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th October, 2018) Members of the South Korean ruling Democratic Party will visit the local office of internet giant Google on Monday and will ask the company to remove over 100 videos that they believe contain fake information from YouTube, the chief of the party's panel charged with combating fake news, Park Kwang-on, said.

"Panel members will visit Google Korea today and deliver the findings and ask it to delete such posts. This is to highlight social responsibility among Internet companies at home and abroad," Park was quoted as saying by the Yonhap news agency.

According to Park, the panel had recently discovered a total of 146 materials containing false information, including 104 videos posted on YouTube.

The panel chief added that the South Korean Communications Standards Commission, which is charged with censorship on the Internet, would be requested to review the videos.

"After completing a legal review, we plan to proceed with legal actions," Park explained.

On October 2, South Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon said that fake news had a negative impact on democracy and ordered the government to tackle the problem. However, media reported that South Korean lawmakers voiced their concern over the prime minister's proposals to combat fake news, fearing that it could be used to silence the government's critics.
