Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on Wednesday the creation of the country's space agency a "landmark step," which would put Turkey forward at the forefront of space exploration and technology.

ANKARA (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 26th December, 2018) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on Wednesday the creation of the country's space agency a "landmark step," which would put Turkey forward at the forefront of space exploration and technology.

"A space agency has been created in our country. This is a landmark step, we have achieved one more goal. The agency will put us at the forefront of space exploration and technology.

Our aim is to turn Turkey into a center of attraction for all scientists. Scientific research and project centers established in almost every part of Turkey are particular examples of these efforts," Erdogan said at a ceremony of awarding scientists, held in Ankara.

On December 13, Erdogan issued a decree formally establishing the country's space agency, which will be charged with implementing Turkish space program, expanding the country's aerospace industry, and negotiating and signing relevant agreements on behalf of the state.
