UK Charity Puts Facebook On 'Dirty List' For Role In Myanmar Human Rights Crimes

A UK-based pressure group has put Facebook on its shame list of 49 state and private firms from Europe, Asia and the United States working with the Myanmar military, accused by a UN panel of genocide.
"The Dirty List Names international companies doing business with the military in Burma. The list also includes international companies involved in projects where there are human rights violations or environmental destruction," Burma Campaign UK said in a statement.
The group, whose stated goal is to "free Burma," singled out the social networking giant for allowing its platform to be used to "incite hatred and violence of minorities in Burma, in particular the Rohingya Muslim minority and Muslims in general.
"
Facebook continues to host the main official page of the Myanmar government and military, the charity said. The page has allegedly been used to spread fear of the Rohingya and denouncing claims of rape of minority women by the military.
Facebook was criticized in September by a UN fact-finding mission for allowing the dissemination of "rampant hate speech" in Myanmar. In the report, independent investigators called for prosecution of the country's top military officials for genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.
