Why most Smartphone’s are not smart!

Technological advancement has hit hard on the Smartphone industry. Smartphone’s have come a long way, from Graham Bell’s telephone, to a cellphone and then a Smartphone. Many Smartphone’s today are not smart anymore.

Lahore, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Nov, 2018 ) : Technology comes with a price, it’s not free and it’s definitely not cheap. Manufacturers spend a hefty amount to own some and make profits out of it by utilizing it in an efficient manner taking into consideration consumer demand. On the other hand, Consumers spend their hard earned cash on these products for self-satisfaction and convenience.

Technological advancement has hit hard on the Smartphone industry. Smartphone’s have come a long way, from Graham Bell’s telephone, to a cellphone and then a Smartphone. Many Smartphone’s today are not smart anymore. They are living on small, miniscule upgrades & bandwagon approaches. Here’s why most Smartphone’s aren’t smart anymore and why you need to make a smart decision before your next purchase!

1) Battle of brands:

The insane amount of competition in this industry is to be blamed for halting technological advancement. Brands are busy fighting each other by producing almost similar products with minor upgrades but nothing special or worth praising for. They have lost the capacity to think out of the box and come up with something special and unique.

2) 3P’s (Profit, Profit & Profit)

Majority of the brands are bombarding the industry by producing new phones with same specs almost every month. Compromising on the product quality by producing affordable devices can justify the fact that brands are only seeking short-term profits and are not interested in maintaining long-term relationships with their customers.

3) Lack of technical awareness.

When we are asked why Smartphone’s are not smart anymore, we look around for the answer. Unfortunately we ourselves are the answer to this question. When a new device is launched, we look at the design, the number of cameras but we give a little attention to the battery capacity, fast charging and the SOC (system on a chip). Because of being technological illiterate, brands can easily exploit us by only adding more pixels to the camera or adding a new color.

Nothing unique or special can be seen in the phone and even if a brand does something unique then we fail to see it.

4) Creativity is a big no!!

Creativity demands risk and risk demands patience and acceptance. In an industry where everyday new products are being launched, brands don’t get time for creativity. If they do something creative, it has to be something out of this world and it should be in line with the consumers demand. But then again, why take the risk if you are making a good living?

Who’s innovating and what needs to be done:

In 2018, Chinese manufacturer Oppo launched a revolutionary device “Find X” with the world first motorized camera giving the phone a screen-to-body ratio of 93.8%. OPPO innovated in the charging department by introducing the fastest charging method which they named VOOC Flash Charge. Next, OPPO played and transformed the notch on their successful phone OPPO F9 called Waterdrop notch.

OPPO is all set to launch its new A-series phone OPPOA A7. For this phone, OPPO has installed in it a 4230 mAh battery and a beautiful 3D Artistic Texture Design to give it a premium look. What noticeable is the Waterdrop notch giving more screen-to-body ratio. Smartphone manufacturers should foresee future and transform it into reality showing people what it will look like in the palm of their hands. The front camera looks like a droplet and breaks the stereotype that the camera has to stay in the corner. All these innovations in one year is a big achievement for OPPO and a lesson for other brands to learn. OPPO smartphones are smart given their unique features even if its only one in a phone. Something is better than nothing.

Lastly, what do we need from technology? We need solutions to problems we are not mindful of, we want upgrades that make a real difference and transformed to cater our future needs. Next time you think of getting a smartphone, don’t forget to ask if it’s actually smart, like OPPO!
