Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 21st December, 2018) Content writers continue to face the dilemma of delayed or no payments as their work is still not that much valued in Pakistan.
Sharing a similar story, Kanza Jamil, a contributor at various websites, shared her story of how Imran Raza, the owner of website RateDesi, refused to pay her for she did not respond to his indecent advances.
Taking to Facebook, Kanza wrote, “I'm sharing this story to show that just because you're the boss, doesn't mean you'll get away with any kind of crap you throw at your employee and then not pay them.”
Kanza started working from Imran Raza in October but he refused to pay for her work as she couldn’t do anything but ignore his offer of a second marriage or an extra marital affair.
“This guy, Imran Raza, from Washington, DC, I started working for him in October. And he refused to pay me in November because after ignoring so many of his inappropriate advances, I finally snapped and bluntly told that 40 year old, married man that I am not his girlfriend, I will never be his girlfriend and how unhappy he is with his wife is NOT my problem,” she said.
Imran Raza owes Rs 9,142 and her articles are still on his website RateDesi which were published on November 27, 2018.
“When I quit he said he’ll pay me on 1st December. Then on 1st, he said he’ll pay me on 7th December and then on 7th, he said he’ll pay me on 1st January. And then he refused to pay me at all and stopped replying to my texts asking for my salary or receiving my calls,” Kanza continued.
Kanza stressed that the power he has over her, being her boss, is frustrating.
“The power that entitled him to do this to me and get away with it. Because he knew he would. And he did get away with it, as so far there doesn’t seem to be anything I can do to hold him accountable for his inappropriate behaviour and for his pathetic reaction to rejection,” the content writer said.
She also shared the links to her articles.
Now, as Imran Raza is helpless, he has resorted to threaten her.
The story points to the missing employment rules in the country, especially for freelancers, who do not have any platform except social media to raise their voice.
