Governors' Party Affiliation Does Not Hinder Constructive Working Relations - Kremlin

The party affiliation of the candidates who won the gubernatorial elections in Russia's Khabarovsk territory and Vladimir region does not hinder constructive working relations, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 24th September, 2018) The party affiliation of the candidates who won the gubernatorial elections in Russia's Khabarovsk territory and Vladimir region does not hinder constructive working relations, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday.

"Party affiliation, if you look at all the entire experience, and you know that some regions of Russia... are led by representatives of other parties, not the ruling party, and this has absolutely, in no way prevented the maintenance of tight, constructive working relations at a proper level with all governors," Peskov said when asked by reporters how the Kremlin will interact with the new governors who came to power from opposition parties.

He said the Kremlin welcomes the fact that in line with the Central Election Commission's assessment, the second round of regional elections was fair, open and competitive, although he added that there was a certain "element of surprise."

Regarding potential meetings of President Vladimir Putin with elected regional heads, Peskov said that they were not on the agenda for the current week.

"It does not mean that such a meeting cannot appear [on the agenda]," Peskov said.

Earlier on Monday, leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) Gennady Zyuganov floated an idea of the president's meeting with the leaders of the parliamentary factions.

"I propose that we get together in the Kremlin, ask the president to meet the leaders [of the factions] and discuss all our proposals. We introduced 12 amendments to the law on the elections and we think that the debates are necessary," Zyuganov said.

Head of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky supported the idea. The LDPR leader voiced a proposal that regional governors should be unaffiliated with any party.

"You know that, traditionally, Putin regularly holds meetings with heads of parliamentary factions, but as for this exact meeting, I do not have information about the potential time period for it," Peskov told reporters.

Candidates from LDPR won the election in Khabarovsk territory and Vladimir region. Vladimir Sipyagin, who won the election in Vladimir region, secured 57.03 percent of the vote, while Sergei Furgal won almost 70 percent of the vote in Khabarovsk territory.
