Any attempts of the Ukrainian authorities to avoid compliance with the agreements reached by the so-called Normandy Four group will be blocked, Russian political expert and Director of the Russian Center for Current Policy (CCP) Alexey Chesnakov told Sputnik.
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th October, 2018) Any attempts of the Ukrainian authorities to avoid compliance with the agreements reached by the so-called Normandy Four group will be blocked, Russian political expert and Director of the Russian Center for Current Policy (CCP) Alexey Chesnakov told Sputnik.
According to Chesnakov, Ukraine has been in a "state of a permanent electoral campaign" and the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections determine the actions of various political forces.
"This long campaign can only be ended when a new government is formed in the country, at the very end of 2019. However, it does not mean that the new Ukrainian authorities, having renewed their mandates, would be able to refuse to comply with Minsk II [peace accords]. All attempts to sabotage or scuttle the Normandy Four's agreements on Kiev's part will be blocked," the political expert said.
The expert stressed that the self-proclaimed republics in Donbas, which are about to hold their elections as well, need to choose their leaders because someone had to implement the Minsk agreements in the region.
Chesnakov noted that it was important to hold the elections in accordance with democratic procedures.
"The republics' authorities are inviting the relevant monitoring groups. Polling stations in Donetsk and Luhansk have agreed to the presence of international monitors from Russia, Europe and the United States," Chesnakov said.
In less than six months, Ukraine is set to hold presidential election, parliamentary elections are scheduled for October, 2019. The self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics are set to choose their leaders and lawmakers on November 11.
In February 2015, the warring parties to the Ukrainian conflict signed the Minsk peace accords in order to end the fighting in the crisis-torn region. Germany, France, Russia and Ukraine, the members of the so-called Normandy Four, helped negotiate the Donbas ceasefire. However, this deal has been subject to multiple violations, for which the conflicting sides continue to blame one another.
