13 universities of Iran among top global universities

As many as 13 Iranian universities are among 1,000 top global universities as per the 2018 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) released by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy on Wednesday, Islamic World Science Citation Center's (ISC) caretaker Mohammad Javad Dehghani said.

TEHRAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Aug, 2018 ) :As many as 13 Iranian universities are among 1,000 top global universities as per the 2018 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) released by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy on Wednesday, Islamic World Science Citation Center's (ISC) caretaker Mohammad Javad Dehghani said.

In 2018 global rankings, two U.S universities of Harvard and Stanford and Cambridge of UK ranked first to third respectively', Dehghani noted.

Last year, eight Iranian universities had been placed in the ranking, the official added.

Expressing hope that continuous growth of Iran's universities in Shanghai global ranking encourage the rise of Iran's universities standing, he said, In 2018, as many as five universities of Science and Industry, Noshirvani scientific university of Babol, Martyr Beheshti's Medical Sciences, Shiraz, Iran's Medical Sciences were ranked for the first time.

Tehran University was ranked 11 among 400 top universities of the world, while Industrial University of Amirkabir was ranked third in ShanghaiRanking, Dehghani touched on.

Universities from the United States took 35 top positions in 54 subjects, followed by 9 institutions from China (including Hong Kong) and 3 from the Netherlands.

The best performing institution is Harvard, taking 17 crowns, 9 of which are from Social Sciences subjects, 4 from Medical Sciences, 2 from Life Sciences, and 2 from Engineering. MIT tops 5 subjects,4 of which are engineering subjects.

Other universities who top more than one subject rankings include University of Pennsylvania and University of Colorado at Boulder from the United States, University of Wageningen from the Netherlands, and Nanyang Technological University from Singapore.
