About 400 Russian Nationals Held In Ukrainian Prisons - Deputy Foreign Minister

There are about 400 Russians held in custody in Ukraine, but the number is not official, as the Ukrainian authorities sometimes fail to inform Moscow of detaining Russian citizens, Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Ivanov told Sputnik

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th January, 2019) There are about 400 Russians held in custody in Ukraine, but the number is not official, as the Ukrainian authorities sometimes fail to inform Moscow of detaining Russian citizens, Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Ivanov told Sputnik.

"The Russian Foreign Ministry has information that there are currently about 400 Russian citizens held in the penitentiary facilities in Ukraine. This information, however, cannot be considered exhaustive, since [the Ukrainian authorities] do not always formally notify us of the facts of detaining Russians, despite such an obligation under the Russian-Ukrainian consular convention," the diplomat said.
