BANGKOK (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 25th May, 2019) Some 50 people have sustained light injures, mainly burns and smoke inhalation, after a blast and ensued fire broke out aboard a ship moored in the Thai port of Laem Chabang on Saturday, local media reported.
According to the Bangkok Post newspaper, the incident occurred aboard a cargo ship operated by a Hong Kong company early in the morning.
The head of the crew of one of the nearby vessels reported that, first, he had heard a loud bang as a container exploded at the cargo ship. More blasts purportedly followed, with the vessel catching fire as a result.
Over 10 firefighter trucks and squads were rushed to scene. They swiftly took the blaze under control, but it took time to entirely extinguish the inferno.
It is still to be determined what kind of chemicals caused the fire. The district whether the port is located has been declared a danger zone, according to the media outlet.
