Active Phase of Russian-Serbian Military Drills Kicks Off in Russia

The active phase of the Russian-Serbian joint tactical drills kicked off on Wednesday at the Luga training range in northwestern Russia, spokesman for Russia's Western Military District Col. Igor Muginov said.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th August, 2018) The active phase of the Russian-Serbian joint tactical drills kicked off on Wednesday at the Luga training range in northwestern Russia, spokesman for Russia's Western Military District Col. Igor Muginov said.

"During the active phase, the Russian and Serbian servicemen will practice joint actions on the deployment at defensive lines and on fortifying the defensive positions, as well as on air, engineering, radiation, chemical and biological reconnaissance along the troops advance routes," Muginov said.

Muginov added that the scenario of the exercises will prioritize mobile actions aimed at defending the occupied positions.

The drills started on Tuesday in Russia's Leningrad Region and will continue until August 17.

Around 800 servicemen and over 200 pieces of military equipment, including army helicopters, are involved in the exercises.

The previous military drills in Russia involving Serbian soldiers took place in late June, when Slavic Brotherhood 2018 brought together 700 Russian troops, over 250 Belarusian troops and about 50 Serbian troops to train in the Krasnodar Territory. The drills included activities such as killing mock terrorists and liberating mock civilians in a simulated border takeover. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the exercise was the largest to be conducted by the Russian Airborne Troops in 2018.
