Afghan Special Forces Kill 35 Taliban Militants in Country's North - Reports

Afghan Special Forces have killed at least 35 Taliban terrorists and destroyed a large cache of weapons and explosives in the Taliban-dominated Kunduz province in the country's north, local media reported on Tuesday

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th March, 2019) Afghan Special Forces have killed at least 35 Taliban terrorists and destroyed a large cache of weapons and explosives in the Taliban-dominated Kunduz province in the country's north, local media reported on Tuesday.

The operation in the Chahar Dara district in the southwestern part of the province left 27 Taliban fighters dead, Pajhwok Afghan news agency reported. The Afghan military also seized and destroyed a large cache of weapons, pressure-plate improvised explosive devices and homemade explosives.

Another 8 Taliban militants were killed during airstrikes in the same district, according to the agency.

Taliban militants have a relatively huge presence in the embattled Kunduz province, where they often attack police, special forces and civilians.

War-ravaged Afghanistan, which has been in turmoil for decades, is split by heavy fighting between government troops and Taliban militants, groups affiliated with al-Qaeda (terrorist group banned in Russia) and other insurgents.
