Almost 1,000 Syrian Refugees Returned From Abroad Over Past 24 Hours - Russian Military

Almost 1,000 Syrian refugees have returned to their home country from Lebanon and Jordan over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides and Refugee Migration Monitoring said on Saturday

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd March, 2019) Almost 1,000 Syrian refugees have returned to their home country from Lebanon and Jordan over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides and Refugee Migration Monitoring said on Saturday.

"Over the past 24 hours, a total of 996 people returned to the Syrian Arab Republic from foreign states: 237 people (including 72 women and 120 children) left Lebanon for Syria via the Jaydet-Yabus and Talkalakh checkpoints, and 759 people (including 228 women and 387 children) from Jordan via the Nasib checkpoint," the center stated in its daily bulletin.

According to the bulletin, 103 internally displaced persons have also returned home within past 24 hours.

Additionally, the center reported that over the past 24 hours three Syrian citizens were given medical treatment in the town of Salihiyah in the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor.

Syrian engineering units continue their mine-clearance operations. Over the past 24 hours, they have cleared of mines 2.8 hectares (5.9 acres) of land and also found and destroyed 24 explosive devices, according to the bulletin.

As the Syrian government has regained control over most of the country's territories that were seized by terrorists, it is now focused on creating favorable conditions for repatriating refugees. Moscow is assisting Damascus in this process, along with providing humanitarian aid to civilians and being a guarantor of the ceasefire.
